Historical developments

Mankind's ordered life hath been revolutionized through the agency of this unique, this wondrous System — the like of which mortal eyes have never witnessed.

— Bahá'u'lláh

The Bahá'í Faith is more than a set of spiritual teachings. It is also an organised worldwide community that functions through the institutions of a unique administrative order. This order was announced by the Bab, designed by Bahá'u'lláh, elaborated in its details by 'Abdu'l-Bahá, built up by Shoghi Effendi, and continues to develop under the guidance of the Universal House of Justice.

The historical development of the Bahá'í Faith is outlined here in periods marked by the leadership of the Báb, Bahá'u'lláh, 'Abdu'l-Bahá, Shoghi Effendi, and the Universal House of Justice.
