Ilona Rogers Ilona Rodgers

ILONA RODGERS, actor, teacher of drama, and theatre director, says:

"The Bahá'í Faith has taught me the purpose of my life and given me a vision of the future."

This vision has inspired Ilona's many contributions to the Bahá'í community. For instance, as a speaker, she is adept at presenting the warmth and spirituality of the Bahá'í teachings to a wide variety of audiences. She has shared her drama skills at many a Bahá'í summer school and workshop. And she has served as a Bahá'í "travelling teacher", most memorably in the rugged Faroe Islands of the North Atlantic, where she greatly enjoyed sharing in the simple lifestyle of the independent-minded people who live there.

"My profession has consisted of different plays, television series and films — they have all been highlights. I am lucky I never do the same thing twice," she says.

Ilona's capability as an actress has won her a number of television awards in New Zealand and Australia.

Born in the United Kingdom, she came to New Zealand with other members of her family in the early 1970s, after a period in New Caledonia. She has been a Bahá'í for most of her adult life, having been first attracted by the Bahá'í teachings on the progressive nature of the world religions, showing their oneness and continuity.

Ilona's husband, David, works in the information technology industry and is also a Bahá'í.They have one adult son.
