What we believe

The Big Issues

All over the world, Bahá’ís are committed to assisting the social, material and spiritual advancement of the nations in which we live, as well as the planet as a whole. In addition to taking grassroots action, we make submissions and issue statements, participate in consultative forums and networks, and make other contributions to the discourses of society.

The perspectives we offer are based on the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh and reflect the effort we make to learn how to apply those teachings to the challenges facing humanity. The Bahá’í International Community has issued many statements over the years, including to a wide variety of UN Agencies, conferences and other forums, and covering issues such as poverty, human rights, sustainable development, racism, interfaith dialogue, family violence, the advancement of women, the environment and climate change.

A sample of such statements follows:

Beyond Legal Reforms: Culture and Capacity in Eradicating Violence Against Women

Of One Same Substance: Consciously Creating a Global Culture of Unity
